Dr Clive Maynard BSc. DC. MCC.
Chiropractor

Clive says "Experience has shown me that some patients are scared of chiropractic manipulation as they fear it will hurt. Our state of the art, computerised system will take this fear away as the treatment is far gentler and can be administered with the patient in a variety of positions."

Exciting New Technology
As a practitioner it is important to keep up to date with and embrace new developments and technology in your field. During the last 12 months we have been investigating new technical developments in spinal care from the USA. Highcliffe Clinic is the first clinic in Europe to offer patients the most technologically advanced system for functional spinal scanning and treatment.

Prior to this system, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Doctors have only been able to give subjective analysis of individual spinal joint function. They will tell the patient a joint is 'fixed' not 'moving' or 'dysfunctional' and when the joint is pushed it is often tender. This new computerised system can provide an objective reading (in Newton's) as to how much compliance (movement) there is in each spinal joint and its supporting structures.  Thus the practitioner gains a dynamic picture of the spinal function. This information is different to the static information produced on a MRI, CT scan or x-ray plate.

During a treatment course, the initial scan of a patient can be monitored throughout and re-scanning is possible at any time without any harmful side effects for the patient from radiation. This, non invasive, computerised approach takes the subjectivity out of the treatment procedure and allows both practitioner and patient to see how the condition is progressing.

Treatment using this system involves multiple minute impulses that are transmitted through a small treatment head. As the treatment is proceeding the head feeds information back to the computer and the change in the joint compliance is instantly displayed on the screen. This allows treatment to adjust as the joint compliance changes.

Unlike a lot of new treatment methods there is a large quantity of published data on both the reliable and effectiveness of the equipment.

Nerve related conditions, muscle strain, lower back pain, neuralgia or joint pain can all be treated successfully by Chiropractic treatment, which can vary from manipulation, dry needling or very gentle methods of treatment such as the revolutionary computerised 'pulstar' machine and massage.

Paraspinal EMG scanning is a reliable technique. The technique is completely non-invasive. There is no piercing of the skin. No electrical signal of any kind is introduced into the body. The instrument simply measures the muscular activity that is present in the patient. There are no known contraindications to performing the study.

It has been documented in studies conducted by universities, hospitals, and chiropractic colleges. It is a well established procedure in the healing arts. According to Jeffrey Cram, Ph.D., who developed the technique of EMG scanning, surface EMG scanning is currently utilised in 80

This system can benefit both children and adults by identifying normal and abnormal spinal joint function.
It can also be used to identify problems prior to stressful situations. For example: starting a new job or pregnancy.
